KSEC's Political Working Group
Our Mission:
“KSEC’s Political Working Group is a group of student and non-student youth focused on building our political power by increasing participation in elections and facilitating the passage of progressive energy legislation in Kentucky through organizing direct actions, educating our peers, and sharing our stories and visions for a more democratic and community-based political system.”

Join Us!!! We need you if we're gonna change anything!
Working Group Calls: This is our main way of communicating as a group, planning, and networking. Our calls are currently every other Monday @ 7pm EST and the call number is (712) 832-8320 / PIN #7826395. Calls are usually no more than an hour long.

Rapid Response Network: Sometimes things happen quickly and we need folks on the ground, across the state, who are ready to mobilize when the moment arises. Whether it's a candidate coming to your town, a piece of legislation that someone's trying to quietly slip through unnoticed, or a tragedy that needs immediate response, sign-up HERE to put your name in the hat so we can call on you when you are quickly needed. (We promise to use this tool in a limited capacity and only when absolutely necessary)

Facebook Group: Ask to join our Facebook group and stay in the loop around our daily happenings and ponderings!

Our Past Work:

2015 Legislative Session
Students worked with the Kentucky Sustainable Energy Alliance to plan Clean Energy Lobby Day in which more than 90 people met with more than 60 Kentucky state legislators for citizens' lobby meetings.  Students and other community leaders asked for legislators to support the Clean Energy Opportunity Act, the creation of Energy Project Assessment Districts (EPAD), and net-metering expansion.  While there is still much work to be done, we are happy to report that Energy Project Assessment Districts have been established in Kentucky and thankful for all the hard work of constituents and legislators working for good energy policies in Kentucky!

2014 Elections
During the 2014 General Assembly, the KSEC Political Working Group launched our campaign to pass comprehensive renewable energy and energy efficiency legislation that creates a road-map for just economic transition. We are thrilled to continue to build momentum around our work by escalating into the next phase of our campaign: the 2014 Midterm Elections.

By showing up at candidate events and demanding that candidates take bold stances on the environmental and energy issues that young people care about, we will force these issues into the spotlight of the Kentucky elections. We will show the state and the nation that Kentucky youth not only care about renewable energy transition, but are leading the fight. We will then continue to build on this momentum and ride the wave right into the 2015 General Assembly and Gubernatorial Election where we will fight harder than ever to secure bold and progressive energy legislation and representatives with a vision to implement and enforce it.
