Meet Our Staff!

Our organization has a non-hierarchical structure. Where most non-profit organizations have an executive director, our staff share equal power, each acting like co-executive directors. The best way to put it is we are a staff ran cooperative, sharing that power with members in decision making. We hold various roles and responsibilities to grow our members skills, support and autonomy in community organizing.

V.L. McClellan (they/him)

Jae Sledge (they/them)

Jae first got involved with KSEC in 2015, developing a deep passion with Catalyst each year after. Coming from the field of education, they love to sharpen their educator tools in spaces that have a healthier relationship with learning. The best part of this job is getting to use these skills in a way that builds them up as whole people in their areas of interest-along with developing the power of young Kentuckians as change makers.
Jae is currently based in Louisville, with roots in Bowling Green and surrounding rural areas.

The Steering Committee takes the long view for KSEC.

KSEC's Steering Committee's mandate is to watch the organization from a high level and ensure that it remains sustainable, keeps up with the changes in the organizing landscape in Kentucky and beyond, and stays true to its mission. Our Steering Committee is composed of long-term KSEC volunteers with a deep understanding of the organization and a love for its work.
The Steering Committee's specific duties involve facilitating KSEC's strategic planning process, providing oversight of the staff, setting priorities for and supporting fundraising, and staying abreast of the environmental movement to ensure that KSEC remains connected with its themes.

Meet our Steering Committee (Coming Soon)

After the pandemic, KSEC and it's members were struggling with capacity and compounding crises. We had a kickass team come together out of love for this movement home to keep it alive. After looking inward to address key issues with burnout and reproducing the systems we live under, we've been working on growing a different relationship with our members!

We're now looking for 2023/2024's Steering Committee. While we build our leaders up and fill these roles, our members and core groups help drive KSEC and make collaborative decisions together. Alumni and movement elders are welcome to be part of our Steering Committee to help build up our intergenerational power (and knowledge!)
