Coal industry is on its way out, simply because there's not much left after endless exploitation. Blowing up our mountains, undermining our communities, and poisoning workers, land, and water. Are they going to stop exploiting us? No, not if we don't build community power together. These profiteers are adapting, using prisons more and more to fill this gap. Ironically enough, the proposed Letcher Co. Prison is to be built on top of an old strip mine. Showing just how they create "solutions", even though we know the data shows: prisons destroy local economies. Read the analysis of how federal prisons in Clary, Martin, and McCready did not improve the economic conditions of these communities. We're building with the coalition, Building Community Not Prisons to strategize to not just stop Letcher Co Prison (again), but reinvesting this money and resources in long-lasting infrastructure that provides for the people impacted by these systems.
