Sustainability Statewide Day of Action
November 20th, 2014
What is sustainability? The Brundtland Report defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”
This day of action highlighted the importance of sustainability on campus and brought attention to all of the different ways we are working towards a sustainable future across the state.
We spread the message that Kentucky students across the state demand their high schools, colleges, and universities put sustainability into practice because we need our schools to be a leader and not a follower in creating and including sustainable solutions in everything we do, including through renewable energy and energy efficiency, recycling, waste mitigation and management, sourcing local foods, and committing to protect our ecosystems and climate.
Students participated from the following campuses: Alice Lloyd College, Berea College, Centre College, dupont Manual High School, Eastern KY University, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Transylvania University, and University of Kentucky!

Mountain Witness Tour with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth
September 14th
Mountain Witness Tours are one of the best methods for helping people who don’t live in the coalfields understand the impact of coal mining on the people who do, and their homes, water and future of their communities. Even folks who do live in the coalfields get a new appreciation for the impact of mining when they go on a tour and talk with those who experience the impacts. Read more on the KFTC website

Kentucky Pre-Power Shift Convergence!
August 31st
Frankfort KY
This weekend we came together and realized that we are dedicating our time and energy to getting 500 Kentuckians to the largest youth climate conference in our nation not only because it is going to be a kick ass conference but because once we inspire and empower that many people we can accomplish so many of our goals!
We talked about transitioning our campuses and communities to renewable energy, divesting our schools, towns, churches, and banks from fossil fuels industries and reinvesting into the livelihood of those most affected by extraction and the changing climate, we talked about creating an economy that safeguards our futures and respects our planet. These things are a reality, but it will require ALL OF US making it a priority to get our voices heard, and Power Shift is just the first step!

Independence from Leaky Pipelines July 4th Call in Day!
This Fourth of July we declared our independence from leaky pipelines by making dozens of calls to our Governor's asking for the pipeline to be denied entrance to Kentucky, and for a educated, non-biased regulatory effort to determine the need and safety of future proposed pipelines. It's not too late to make a call if you want to help!
Here is the number: (502) 564-2611

Hi! My name is _________ and I am a resident in ________ county. I am calling the Governor today to ask him to declare our independence from leaky pipelines this July 4th by not allowing the proposed Bluegrass Pipeline to cross through Kentucky. This pipeline will only benefit the private interests of the out-of-state companies backing the project and put KY communities and ecosystems in danger. We also need to develop a state process for approving (or disapproving) and regulating natural gas liquids pipelines, since one does not currently exist. The Williams company is known to cut corners and to endanger citizens working and living near their facilities, please do not let KY be the next site of a Williams natural gas accident. Thank you!

The topic was in direct response to the proposed Bluegrass Pipeline which (if built) will transport 200,000- 400,000 gallons of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) from PA through the center of KY and down to TX where it will likely be exported markets.
After the webinar we continued our discussion about taking a stance against the pipeline.
